My Start in Direct Sales.

For me starting this new adventure in direct sales was quite honestly not something that I had actually planned.

My direct sales (network marketing) story begins in a small rural town of 900 people in central Idaho.  

We had purchased a brick and mortar business with an annual sales of $35 thousand. In less than 8 years we had record sales of $95 thousand plus.   Then the recession hit, and our annual sales were back down to $44 thousand. I analyzed the numbers and discovered almost 15% of sales were coming from network marketing. It didn’t take a business degree to know what needed to be done.  We closed our brick and mortar business and i pursued direct sales with Avon full time.

With so many direct sales (network marketing) business, why did I choose Avon?



First, my daughter and I had signed up as a team to help my mother a couple of years earlier.  When my mom needed me to take over more of her duties with Avon, I was able to increase my Avon sales to almost $10 annually, and I could do it from my home, not a traditional brick and mortar business.  Saving about a thousand dollars a month in overhead.

Second, Avon products have been available for over 130 years, and almost everyone has used these products at some point in their lifetime.  The diversity of products is astonishing. Skin care, makeup, perfume, jewlery, bath and body, fashion, gifts, home decor, and most recently health and wellness. I knew it would not be limited to just a few categories of products, such as supplements or cookware.  Avon has been on the leading edge of skin care, makeup and perfume for years, so it just made sense that as they expanded into diverse areas, this company would be at the fore front of the industry.  And now with thousands of products and unique lines to choose from, Avon brochures are like visiting a huge department store right from your own home.

Third, the compensation plan is one of the best I’ve seen.  Avon representatives begin earning commissions on their first dollar.  Unlike some companies, representatives have no minimum sales amounts to receive  commission (discount). Many Avon representatives are simply “personal shoppers” meaning, they join just to buy the products they use at a discount.  There is no minimum monthly purchase requirements, and commissions are based on size of order.
